First syllable (OC *qiːwʔ, “deep, dim”) is probably cognate to (OC *qɯw, “dark”); second syllable (OC *l'eːwʔ, “to bore, to perforate”) is probably related to (OC *kʰleːwɢs, “hole”) (Schuessler, 2007)
