Etymology
editOf 自分 (jibun, “oneself”) + 撮り (tori, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 撮る (toru, “to take a photograph”)). The tori changes to dori as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
