editIn Mainland China, 逮捕 refer to pretrial detention authorized by the procuratorate, which is equivalent to 羈押 / 羁押 (jīyā) in Taiwan and Macau. The apprehension of criminal suspects (whether in flagrante delicto or not) is known as 刑事拘留 (xíngshì jūliú) (刑拘 (xíngjū) in short).
