Glyph origin
editPhono-semantic compound (形聲 / 形声, OC *ʔsoːɡ) : semantic 金 (“metal”) + phonetic 族 (OC *zoːɡ).
Etymology
editCompare འཛུགས ('dzugs, “to insert; to plant”) (Sagart, 2017d; Hill, 2019), which STEDT derives from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-(d)z(j)u(ː)k (“to pierce; to plant; to erect”).
Sagart (2017) also compares it to Jingpho achyo (“to stab”).
