숨구멍
Korean
editEtymology
editOf native Korean origin. 숨 (sum, “breath”) + ㅅ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) + 구멍 (gumeong, “hole”).
Pronunciation
edit- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈsʰu(ː)mk͈umʌ̹ŋ]
- Phonetic hangul: [숨(ː)꾸멍]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
