editCoined at 1527 as 時衣 in Hunmongjahoe(訓蒙字會, Introductions of the Letters for Youth), written by Choe Sejin. Each Sino-korean letter is used only for showing Korean pronunciation, as Sino-korean 時 has the initial ㅅ in its pronunciation, and the meaning of 衣(옷) has the final ㅅ.
