Etymology 1

As the meaning 'to steal', first attested in the Gyeongsillok Eonseok (敬信錄諺釋 / 경신록언석), 1796, as Early Modern Korean 움치다 (Yale: wumchi-ta). Possibly related to 우희〮다〮 (wùhúytá, to grab) (cf. Korean 움키다 (umkida, to grab)).
