Etymology

From Common Turkic *-āčak.

Suffix

-acak

1. Future tense suffix. Equivalent to will.

   kır(-mak) (“(to) break”) → kıracak (“he/she/it will break”)

2. Forms nouns or adjectives from verbs.

   yak(-mak) (“to burn”) → yakacak (“combustible”)

   as in yakacak odun (“wood that will be used to burn”) used as an adjective.

Usage notes

• Personal suffixes are added after "-acak".

  bağır + -acak + -ım → bağıracağım (“I will shout”)

  bağır + -acak + -sın → bağıracaksın (“you will shout”)

  bağır + -acak → bağıracak (“he/she/it will shout”)

  bağır + -acak + -ız → bağıracağız (“we will shout”)

  bağır + -acak + -sınız → bağıracaksınız (“you will shout”)

  bağır + -acak + -lar → bağıracaklar (“they will shout”)

• If the verb ends in a vowel, it takes the linking consonant "-y"

  boya → boyayacak

  sakla → saklayacak

• If the verb's last vowel is "e", "i", "ö" or "ü", -ecek is used.

  git → gidecek

• This suffix is not often used in spoken language. Instead of -acak/-ecek, people often use -cak, -ıcak, -icek, -ucak, -ücek in informal speech.
• -ıcak, -icek, -ucak, -ücek are the formal pronunciations if it represents an action.
