Old Irish r-stem nouns.
These nouns are masculine or feminine, typically with the following endings:
- in the nominative singular: the bare stem with palatalized final r and unpalatalized preceding th (except in siur (“sister”), which has u-insertion);
- in the genitive singular: the bare stem with unpalatalized final r;
- in the nominative plural: the bare stem with palatalized final r and palatalized preceding th.
The stem classes are named from the perspective of Proto-Celtic and may not still be visible in Old Irish inflections.
