- (Terschelling) First attested as apud Sanctum Nycolaum in 1296. Compound of ooster (“eastern, east-”) and end (“end, edge”). See also West Frisian Aasterein.
- (Noord-Holland) First attested as oesterenende in 1317. Compound of Middle Dutch ooster (“eastern, east-”) and ende (“end, edge”).
- (Opsterland) Calque of West Frisian Easterein, a compound of easter (“eastern”) and ein (“end”).
