Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/hanka
Proto-Finnic
editEtymology
editFrom earlier *šanka, possibly borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (whence Lithuanian atšanka, atšankė̃). The sense "rowlock" may have been borrowed from Proto-Germanic *hanhuz (whence Old Norse hár (“rowlock, thole”), Norwegian Nynorsk hå (“rowlock, thole”))[1].
