Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/hoonëh
Proto-Finnic
editEtymology
editUnknown. Has been compared with Baltic words: compare Lithuanian šoninė (“annex, side chamber, flank”), from šonas (“side”). Has also been compared also with Permic words meaning 'warm': Proto-Permic *šɔnit.[1] Both comparisons, the Baltic[2] and the Uralic,[3] are both semantically and phonetically unlikely. Seems to contain the suffix + *-ëh.
