editLikely a substrate borrowing from the same Mediterranean source as Ancient Greek κάραβος (kárabos, “beetle, crustacean”), κᾰ́μμᾰρος (kámmaros, “lobster, shrimp”) (the later whence Latin cammarus (“lobster”)), with hypothetical proto-form *km̥h₂-er-.[1]
