Proto-Germanic

edit

Etymology

edit

From *markō (borderland) +‎ *mann- (person).

Noun

edit

*markōmann- m

  1. one of the Marcomanni

Inflection

edit

The nominative singular could be one of two forms: *markōmannz or *markōmannô. The former is shown in both West and North Germanic, whilst the latter is shown in Gothic and in the rare Old English manna. When using the latter, the vocative singular should be the same as the nominative, but when using the former, it should be *markōmann.
