editFrom Proto-Indo-European *wreg- (“track, hunt, follow”). Cognate with Hittite ūrki- (“track”), Tocharian B werke (“to chase, hunt”), Sanskrit व्रजति (vrájati, “to go, walk, move”), and perhaps Latin urgēre (“to be urgent”), Proto-Slavic *vèrťi (“to throw, cast”).[1]
