editOriginally participle, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kimśto-, from Proto-Indo-European *kmḱ-to-, from *kemḱ-. Equivalent to **čęsti + *-tъ.
Cognate with Lithuanian kim̃štas (“packed, stuffed”) (< kim̃šti, kemšù).
