German
editEtymology
editBorrowed from Middle Low German tûte, tǖte (“horn, conical paper bag”). Cognate with English tote (“bag”), Dutch tuit (“spout”). Further origin unknown, though has been suggested to be part of a sound-symbolic family of words including Zitze (“teat”).
