Is there a source for the pronunciation? It doesn't match that from the Wikipedia article. 94.0.180.226 18:22, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- That's because we're showing the English pronunciation, and they're showing the (presumably correct, but unsourced) Romani pronunciation. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 18:27, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- /poraɪmos/ is how I would expect the word to be pronounced in standard Romani—I don't know where WP got their pronunciation from, and I see it's tagged "citation needed". /poʊɹaɪmoʊs/ and /pɔɹaɪmoʊs/ (the latter of which some sites support when they give pronunciation respellings like "paw-rye-mawss") are anglicisations of that. - -sche (discuss) 23:22, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Er... except that in my understanding, there's no such thing as "standard Romani". But Wik* doesn't seem to be rich in Romani speakers (django, anybody?) so I don't know who to trust. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 00:53, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
I see that it's been changed now. When I first made the comment, the transcription didn't look like an English one (either British or American English), so I presumed that it was Romani. I don't speak a word of Romani, and wondered why it didn't match that on Wikipedia. 94.0.180.226 00:19, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
