Translation issue

edit
  1. (transitive) to accustom, to habituate
Apesar de eu costumar acordar cedo, hoje acordei ao meio-dia.
Despite the fact that I used to wake up early, today I woke up at noon.

Here the idea is expressed in the present, not the past, so a more apt translation would be something like:

  • Though I usually wake up early, today I woke up at noon.

or

  • Even though I'm accustomed to rising early, today I rose at noon.

Used in the past it takes on the English idiomatic sense of "used to."

  • Eu costumava morar aqui.
  • I used to live here.
