Translation issue
edit- (transitive) to accustom, to habituate
- Apesar de eu costumar acordar cedo, hoje acordei ao meio-dia.
- Despite the fact that I used to wake up early, today I woke up at noon.
Here the idea is expressed in the present, not the past, so a more apt translation would be something like:
- Though I usually wake up early, today I woke up at noon.
or
- Even though I'm accustomed to rising early, today I rose at noon.
Used in the past it takes on the English idiomatic sense of "used to."
- Eu costumava morar aqui.
- I used to live here.
