This etymology and definition, while plausible, seems to be dubious. A cretin isn't an idiot - it is a reprehensible person. The description of Cretian at http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults2.php?passage1=Titus+1&book_id=63&version1=9&tp=3&c=1 (specifically verse 12) seems a much more likely source of the term (and a better contemporary definition.) --Connel MacKenzie 07:43, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- I always understood "cretin" to mean an idiot or moron. And in French, crétin takes that meaning. This is not to say that a Cretan origin is impossible; the two words are indeed exceedingly similar. 109.246.254.186 20:18, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
