Talk:judoka

I am not sure how to change this, but judoka is a Japanese word and is not an English word. It is not pluralized as judokas as in English, but rather the plural of judoka is judoka, as it is Japanese. RufusRandolf 11:45, 11 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

It is used in English, originally from Japanese. Judoka as the plural does sound right, I'll look into it later today. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:47, 11 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
google books:"judokas" says yes. Mglovesfun (talk) 19:57, 11 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Go on JudoForum.com and ask people who actually know Japanese or use the forum's search function to find posts that already exist. Unfortunately, I am not very good at using the search function; but it is most definitely wrong to use judokas. The same goes for "sensei," the plural is simply itself, "sensei." If you want to indicate that it is plural it is clear by context or you specify a number. RufusRandolf 11:46, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Furthermore, why change the French feminine form from judokate to judoka? Judokate is found in dictionaries. Mglovesfun (talk) 21:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think published books are a more reliable source than "JudoForum.com"! Words borrowed from one language into another tend to adopt the rules of that language, such as pluralization rules. Equinox 21:58, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps you think that because you do not post on the JudoForum? There are many published authors and people with doctorates who post there. Even Neil Adams has an account. RufusRandolf 04:59, 14 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
You miss the point. Many people with (e.g. mathematics) doctorates probably go to poker tournaments, but that doesn't make the poker club a reliable source. If these people have published papers etc. supporting your view, please show them. Equinox 09:21, 14 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
