Inherited from Ottoman Turkish آدم باشنه (adam başına),[1][2] from آدم (adam) and باش (baş),[3][4] equivalent to adam (man; human being, person) +‎ baş (head) +‎ (possessive suffix) +‎ -(n)a (dative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant), literally (per) man's head. Cognates with Azerbaijani adam başına, Bashkir әҙәм башына (əźəm başına), Crimean Tatar adam başına, Karachay-Balkar адам башына (adam başına), Kazakh адам басына (adam basyna), Kyrgyz адам башына (adam başına), Tatar адәм башына (adäm başına), Turkmen adam başyna, Uyghur ئادەم بېشىغا (adem bëshigha), Uzbek odam boshiga.
