Etymology

edit

A new term coined in the 1860s-1870s, from aiz- +‎ spriedums (judgment), with spriedums from spriest (past stem: spried-) (to judge) +‎ -ums, probably by K. Valdemārs and F. Brīvzemnieks. At that time, A. Kronvalds also proposed a term aizspriediens, which, however, never became popular.[1]
