From Proto-Balto-Slavic *ak- (compare Latvian acs, Old Prussian ackis (eyes) (nominative plural), Proto-Slavic *oko), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ekʷ-. Cognate to Latin oculus, English eye.
