Etymology

edit

Either from Latin ēruncāre or from a + Latin runcāre, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃rewk-. Another theory proposes a Vulgar Latin *averruncāre (to distance that which is bad), which is less likely. [1] Compare Aromanian aruc, arucari, Megleno-Romanian runc, Occitan arronçar.
