Etymology

edit

Inherited from Middle French aussi, from Old French ossi, ausi, alsi (as, in the same way as), from Vulgar Latin *ale si (other so, else so), from Latin alid, aliud (other, another, any other, else) + sīc (so, thus); probably a calque of Frankish *allswā (as, likewise, in the same way). Compare also similarly formed Old French altresi (as, in the same way as, also, as well).

In the wood, when my son was sleeping and you were sleeping too, I almost kissed you softly.
