editFrom Ottoman Turkish عذاب (azāb, “pain, torment, torture”), from Arabic عَذَاب (ʕaḏāb). An early Turkic borrowing akin to Karakhanid [script needed] (ˁaẕāb), Bashkir ғазап (ğazap), Kazakh азап (azap), Kyrgyz азап (azap), Tatar газап (ğazap), Uzbek azob.
