editFrom Old Galician-Portuguese, from Latin vessīca, variant of vēsīca. Presumably came via a northern dialect or Galician on account of the /b-/. Compare Galician vexiga, Spanish vejiga. Doublet of vesico-, a borrowing from Latin.
