1. Any shrub in the genus Andromeda, especially Andromeda polifolia.

Usage notes

This species is now considered the only species of the genus, other species names under Andromeda being understood as synonymous with it or species of other genera in the Ericaceae. Note also that the vulgar has often confused this plant with Rhododendron tomentosum which bears the name marsh rosemary and other names relating it to the rosemary in other languages.
