chuột
Vietnamese
editEtymology
editFrom Middle Vietnamese 𤝞 (chuọt, “mouse”), from Proto-Vietic *k-ɟɔːt. Cognate with Arem kaɟuət. See also Khmer ជូត (cuut, “Year of the Rat”) (whence also Thai ชวด (chûuat) through Old Khmer), which is a loan from a Vietic language.
For the "biceps" sense, compare the parallels in Latin mūsculus (“muscle”, literally “little mouse”) and Ancient Greek μῦς (mûs, “mouse; muscle”).
The computing sense is a semantic loan from English mouse.
