Etymology
editFrom late Proto-Albanian *dimənə < *ðimənə, from early Proto-Albanian *j́īmanʉh, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰéy-mō < *ǵʰey- (“winter”). Orel reconstructs Proto-Albanian *deimena.[1] Cognate with Ancient Greek χειμών (kheimṓn, “winter”) and the like.[2]
