1. A basket, often cushioned, in which a dog sleeps.
2. (slang, nautical, archaic) A container holding the remnants of meals from the cabin.
   • 1879, The Nautical Magazine, volume 48, page 307:

     […] and would look with quiet scorn on his less punctilious shipmates when they made a rush at the cuddy "dog basket."

   • 1893, John Arthur Barry, Steve Brown's Bunyip: And Other Stories, page 34:
