Etymology

From Philippine Spanish droguista (“drug buyer; drug user”), itself from droga (“drug”) +‎ -ista, originally as a pseudo-Hispanism, derived from English druggist, literally “drug manufacturer and vendor” but with semantic shift, itself from French droguiste (“drug manufacturer and vendor”). Compare Dutch drogist, Tagalog durugista.
