From Philippine Spanish droguista (drug buyer; drug user), itself from droga (drug) +‎ -ista, originally as a pseudo-Hispanism, derived from English druggist, literally drug manufacturer and vendor but with semantic shift, itself from French droguiste (drug manufacturer and vendor). Compare Dutch drogist, Tagalog durugista.
