Etymology

edit

Inherited from Latin fabricāre (which originally had to do with the forging of iron; see also fabrica, borrowed from this word and thus an etymological doublet, along with forja), and perhaps influenced by fier; another etymology links it to a Vulgar Latin root *ferricāre, from ferrum (compare Old French enfergier). Compare Aromanian fãric, fãricari.[1]
