  1. (colloquial) A female friend, as opposed to a girlfriend or lover.
    • 1984, University of Manchester, Department of English (contributor), PN Review - Volume 11, page 42:
      Newfoundlanders are contrary people who often speak or act back foremost, saying friendgirl, ashore for aboard, boy for man, gaffer for boy, and young fellow for any unmarried man under middle age.
  2. (colloquial) A girlfriend, although of less intensity.
