Etymology

From older dialectal glu, from Old Albanian glû (pl. glunj), from Proto-Albanian *gluna, with l/n dissimilation from earlier *g(a)nuna, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵónu. Compare similar dissimilation in Old Irish glún from the same root. Possible borrowing from Proto-Celtic *glūnos[1]
