From Old Swedish græmia, græma, from Old Norse gremja, from Proto-Germanic *gramjaną. Cognate of German grämen, Gothic 𐌲𐍂𐌰𐌼𐌾𐌰𐌽 (gramjan), Old English gremman. Doublet of gramse.

  1. to make bitter and irritated
    Det grämde honom att han sålt aktierna så tidigt
    It irked him that he had sold the stocks so early
  2. (reflexive) to fret (often over a mistake)
    Han grämde sig över sitt misstag
    He was beating himself up over his mistake
