editFrom a root *hip(p)e- shared with hiven, dialectal hive (“sweet snack”) and dialectal hippi (“peak, tip”). SSA argues for a sound-symbolic origin,[1] while NSES connects both with hipiä (and thus indirectly also hius).[2]
