editFrom New Latin ischaemia, from Ancient Greek ἴσχαιμος (ískhaimos, “stoppage of blood flow”), from ῐ̓́σχω (ískhō, “to hold back, restrain; to stay, stop”) + αἷμᾰ (haîma, “blood”).[1]
The plural form ischemiae is also from New Latin ischaemiae.
