editInherited from Old Czech jaro, from Proto-Slavic *jaro, from Proto-Indo-European *yóh₁r̥ (“year, spring”). Cognate with English year, German Jahr (“year”), Latin hōra (“hour, time, season”), Ancient Greek ὥρα (hṓra, “year, season”).[1][2]
