  1. (obsolete) Something which amuses, and serves to make time pass agreeably.
    • 1817, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, chapter 3, in Biographia Literaria[1], footnote, published 1889, page 24:
      For as to the devotees of the circulating libraries, I dare not compliment their pass-time, or rather kill-time, with the name of reading.
