editFrom Proto-Philippine *kuláʀu with elision of /l/. Compare Ilocano kullaaw, Pangasinan kulayot, Kapampangan kulayu, Bikol Central kuwaw, Cebuano kulago, Maranao kolago, and Western Bukidnon Manobo kulagu. Doublet of kulago and kulayo.
