editCompare the adjectives mesial, medial, and median, which overlap in meaning but are usually idiomatically non-interchangeable. Each is used in certain contexts, and shades of differentiable meaning are sometimes ascribed. Most uses of mesial are in dentistry, but not all (for example, as with the mesial aspect of the brain's temporal lobe).
