edit- Used to create terms for persons doing particular occupations. The prefix is added to the genitive form of the given verbal noun (the verbal noun form is identical to the present participle form).
- stiùir (“direct”) → stiùireadh (“directing”) → neach-stiùiridh (“director”)
- treòraich (“guide”, verb) → treòrachadh (“guiding”) → neach-treòrachaidh (“guide”, noun)
- deasaich (“edit”) → deasachadh (“editing”) → neach-deasachaidh (“editor”)
- Semantically, such words words are considered neutral, regarding sex, but as Scottish Gaelic has no neuter gender, the gender of such words is always masculine.
