Borrowed from translingual Reduviidae, from Reduvius (genus name) +‎ -idae (taxonomic suffix), from Latin reduvia (a remainder, remnant, fragment), describing the habit of the nymph of Reduvius personatus camouflaging itself with small pieces of debris.
