regardless of
English
editPreposition
edit- without attention to; without regard for
- Synonyms: irrespective of; see also Thesaurus:despite
- He smoked cigars regardless of the consequences.
Usage notes
edit- regardless, without of, is sometimes used as a preposition, but usage with of is more correct.
- This term can also be analyzed as a postpositive adjective "regardless" (placed after the modified noun) that takes a prepositional phrase headed by "of" as its complement.
- Tatiana knew the meat had passed its expiry date, but she ate it regardless [of the food having passed its expiry date].
