editFrom Arabic صَلَّى (ṣallā, “to pray”, also “to pray for somebody, to bless”). Regarding the e-vocalism and the verbal noun tislija there may have been a merger with Arabic سَلَّى (sallā, “to amuse, entertain, comfort”). See the doublet salla for more.
