editSino-Vietnamese word from 生育, composed of 生 (“to bear; to give birth”) and 育 (“to raise; to bring up”). The word properly means "to birth and raise", but the dục part, as in giáo dục (“to educate”) or dưỡng dục (“to raise”), is probably confused with 慾 / 欲 (yù, “lust”), as in tình dục (“sex”).
