Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تشرین ثانی (teşrin-i sani), from Arabic تِشْرِين الثَانِي (tišrīn aṯ-ṯānī); equivalent to teşrin +‎ sani (second). The name was officially changed to kasım by law number 4696 passed January 10, 1945.
