Inherited from Old Swedish thorsmanadher (January). Compound of Tor (Thor) +‎ -s (-'s) +‎ månad (month). First attested in the early half of the 14th century.[1]

      After a thoroughly mild January and a rather mild February, there comes a March that seems to want to become a real spring month or at least not "scare the children within walls with a ragged beard."
